Thorncombe 1 - 4 Pymore FC
Pymore started the new year with a hard fought victory on a sticky Thorncombe pitch. Pymore were a little rusty in the opening minutes and signs were showing that they hadn`t played since last year. Pymore were missing Leigh Dowle, who was beaten up the previous night, but included fans favourite Fred Etherington who was making his first apperance of the season.
It was Thorncombe who opened the scoring on around the 10 minute mark when their striker broke clear and his effort squeazed under the body of the onrushing Charlie Youngs. Pymore were back level about 5 minutes later when a through ball from Freddy found Timmy out wide on the left, he beat his marker, cut in then sent a shot across the keeper into the corner. Thorncombe had the opportunity to go ahead when a stunning drive from 40 yards hit the crossbar and thankfully fell into the arms of Charlie. Pymore got there noses in front before the interval when nippy striker Alex Goodrick went on a mazy run beating several players before his pass found Timmy who beat the onrushing keeper.
After the interval Thorncombe pushed forward in search of pulling level but found keeper Youngs in top class form pulling off several world class saves. Fabio Capello is now wondering if England`s number 1 could come from the Perry Street League? Goodrick set off on another of his mazy runs and this time got to the bye line before pulling the ball back to Robbie Walters on the edge of te six yard box and his effort went inside the post to make it 3-1 to Pymore.
Thorncombe`s never say die attitude continued with further attacks and one massive goal mouth scramble from a corner but it was Goodrick who got the 4th for Pymore and a goal which his performance deserved when Timmy Hussey found space on the right cut the ball in for Goodrick to chase, he got to the ball before the keeper and twinkle toed around him and smashed the ball into the emty net.
